Comfortable Positions for Your Newborn Using Baby Slings

There are several ways to wear a baby. The position you choose
to place you baby in using baby slings is up to both you and
your child. You might find one position more comfortable than
another or learn that you child prefers one position over
another. In addition, a position can facilitate a desired
action. Nursing calls for one position, napping another and
burping still another hold can be affected.

For newborns there are 4 basic positions that can be adopted
using baby slings or the rebozo:

1)Lying down in front of you

Baby slings can be used to set your newborn in a semi-reclining
position. You can choose the Cradle Carry that puts the baby’s
head closest to your carrying shoulder. This is a great position
for the napping infant. Or, if it is feeding time, you can try
the Nursing Hold with the newborn positioned in the opposite
direction with his head away from your carrying shoulder to
facilitate feeding. In addition baby slings will shelter the
nursing child providing some privacy.

2)Newborn Snuggle Hold

Baby slings are used in this position to set the baby facing
you. In this position the child has the knees up or the feet
tucked. The sling keeps the child’s back and head well supported
and helps prevent slouching. It is a good position for bonding
between parent and newborn.

3)Burp Position

In this style of hold 2 baby slings are used to carry the baby
up on the shoulder. Gentle pressure is put on the stomach and
helps to prevent acid from escaping back up the baby’s
esophagus. To affect this position using baby slings they should
be worn on opposite shoulders with the rings on your hip. You
want to be sure both slings are tight.

4)The Reclining Back Carry

Women of many cultures will wear a baby on their back. This
enables the mother to work by leaving the frontal area and hands
free. If needed, as in nursing time, the baby can be swung
around to face the mother. This method of carry is not
recommended for baby slings. Instead use the rebozo.

With these four positions to choose from the first three work
very will with the typical baby slings. The burp position is
probably a good hold to adopt after baby is fed. It is a natural
way to promote burping. The lying down hold is best for nap time
or nursing as the baby sling will shelter the nursing infant.
The snuggle hold is great for bonding time with the newborn as
it promotes tummy to tummy contact between the baby wearer and
the baby. This is a great bonding position for fathers to try
out. The back carry is very rare in the modern world as it is
used primarily for working mothers. However if you choose to try
this type of baby wearing opt for the rebozo instead of baby
slings.

Baby Bedding - Why Buy Organic?

A great deal of scrutiny and consideration is expended when you
are getting ready for a new arrival in your family. Without a
doubt, you are looking for the very best materials and
construction available so that your child has nothing but the
best. Baby beddingis just one of the items you will be choosing.
You will be looking for top quality items in baby bedding to
give your child the best sleep experience possible. Why not take
a few minutes to review the benefits of an organic bedding
rather than the traditional types. Organic products are
certified to be free of any chemicals that would be harmful or
irritation to your baby's tender skin.

Influence the marketplace

By insisting on organic products when you purchase any item, you
are helping to lend your support to the entire concept of
organically made products. By purchasing baby bedding made of
organic materials you are telling the producers that the
consumers of this country are in favor of the reduced
contaminants and irritants resulting from organically grown
products. When you purchase baby bedding that is free of
pesticides and contaminants, you are more likely to find more of
these products in the future, since the producers will be more
than happy to increase the availability of products that are
obviously selling.

Child Safety

Nothing is more important to your planning for parenthood than
ensuring the safety of your child. What many parents do not
realize though, is that sometimes the safety features build into
the baby bedding can actually have negative effects. For
example, baby bedding that has been treated with chemical fire
retardants is being studied by experts to determine the type of
effects that these chemicals may have on the baby. Traditional
bedding for the baby such as crib mattresses that contain
polyurethane foam may have negative results on the baby.

Air Circulation

There is some evidence that organic baby bedding such as crib
mattresses permit better circulation of air through the product.
This quality in turn allows your child to be able to breathe
more easily. There is less chance of allergic reactions such as
those caused by chemicals and parasites in the baby bedding.
With better air circulation in the products surrounding your
baby, there is more opportunity to regulate the body temperature
while sleeping. This can be critically important to an infant,
particularly if he or she is premature.

Quality

When you decide, for any of the above reasons, to purchase
organic products for your baby bedding, you should check labels
carefully to determine that the product is actually organic.
Check with the Organic Consumers Association to receive the
contact information for accredited organic merchants. Although
organic baby bedding is usually more expensive than more
traditional products, discriminating parents often consider the
cost provides additional quality. After all, your infant spends
almost 75% of his or her time sleeping. Why not make the time as
safe and healthy as possible by providing allergen and pollutant
free bedding?

Baby Slings and Carriers From Pure and Honest Kids

Babywearing is one of the oldest and most widely accepted
parental practices in the world. Many highly acclaimed
pediatricians have identified that babywearing is a good
practice for little ones and provides benefits that unslinged
babies do not receive.

For instance, a team off pediatricians in 1986 from Montreal
concluded that babies who are carried in slings cry at least 40
percent less than those babies who are unslinged. To most moms,
that’s reason enough to purchase a baby sling! The study also
showed that babywearing helped reduce colic in infants as well.

Research also shows that babies worn in slings show more
alertness, both visual and auditory, and absorb information much
quicker. Because your baby is close to you when worn in a sling,
he or she is not scared by loud noises, thus allowing them to
absorb more sights and sounds around them. Babywearing also
helps promote speech development, as babies are exposed to more
conversations and sounds when held closely to their parents.

Another reason to consider babywearing is that your sweet little
baby spent the first nine months of his or her life in your
womb, and a baby sling closely mimics the feeling of being
inside mom’s tummy. Your baby will feel safe and secure in your
baby carrier, and it will promote a bond between parent and
baby.

Lastly, using a baby sling or carrier can simply make life
easier for you and your baby. It is a convenient way to
breastfeed while caring for an older child, working or getting
chores done around the house. It also is a great way to snuggle
babies that liked to be held frequently, but it frees your hands
to complete other tasks.

Choosing the Right Sling or Carrier:

At Pure and Honest Kids, we offer two wonderful slings and
carriers for our customers.

Polkadot Papoose

The Polkadot Papoose is truly a baby sling for a modern mom. It
is equally stylish and practical. It was designed by a freelance
babywear designer with a vision for a product that would capture
the hearts of sensible-yet-fashionable moms everywhere.

With a Polkadot Papoose, you take your measurements to be sure
of a perfect fit. The folks at Polkadot Papoose know the
importance of a correct fitting sling, and they want to make
sure they get it right. To determine the correct size, measure
from your shoulder to the opposite hipbone with a soft tape
measure. Here’s a helpful tip- your sling measurement will
usually correspond to your t-shirt size. Then simply order your
size accordingly.

The Polkadot Papoose is 100 percent cotton, reversible and hand
crafted. It comes with a binkie pocket, so you’ll always be sure
to have that all important binkie readily available!

The Polkadot Papoose offers a wide variety of designer fabrics
to suit almost any taste. At Pure and Honest Kids, we offer the
following patterns: Elisa, Melanie, Sayuri, and Scarlett.

Another great feature about the Polkadot Papoose slings? A
portion of every sale is
donated to Project Rescue, a charity which fights human
trafficking and child exploitation in urban centers around the
world.

The Polkadot Papoose is available at Pure and Honest Kids for
$64.00.

PortaMee Baby Carrier

Another great carrier offered at Pure and Honest Kids is the
PortaMee Carrier. Chic and easy to use, this awesome baby
carrier is essential for active parents and busy caregivers.
PortaMee is the exclusive baby carrier with ergonomic lumbar
support to reduce back fatigue and discomfort. The side carrier
allows caregivers the ability to maintain eye contact with your
child, which will increase bonding.

The baby carrier by PortaMee is hands-free, stylish and
constructed with fine fabrics with pockets for just about
everything - your mobile devices, wallet, diapers and insulated
detachable bottle holder. Leave your diaper bag at home when
carrying your baby in a PortaMee Carrier and be truly hands
free!

The carrier not only looks stylish, but it is very comfortable
to wear and is well constructed. With a gel padded adjustable
shoulder strap and waist straps, toy hook, and so much more,
this baby carrier ultimately considers you and your child's
comfort and safety first.

This carrier is designed for babies that can hold their head up
unassisted and weigh between 15 - 35 lbs. While most carriers
and slings are made for newborn babies only, the PortaMee
Carrier is the next step. There is enough lumbar support in the
PortaMee Carrier to hold your sweet toddlers, too. Also
important to note, if you purchase a PortaMee Infant Headrest,
also available at Pure and Honest Kids, babies as small as eight
pounds (six weeks or older) can be carried in the PortaMee
Carrier.

The PortaMee is made of a high quality nylon rainwear for the
exterior and a soft micro-suede for the interior. Pure and
Honest Kids offers the black carrier, as well as the brown and
pink combination carrier.

The PortaMee Carrier is available at Pure and Honest Kids for
$175.00.

Choosing Crib Bedding For Your Baby?

If you’re expecting a new arrival in your family, you already
know there’s plenty to do in preparation. One of the most
important is getting the nursery ready so your newborn will have
a cozy, safe, and pleasant place to sleep once he or she returns
from the hospital. That means you’ll need to go shopping for
crib bedding. Below are some tips that can help you choose the
right crib bedding for you new bundle of you.

Setting a Budget

As you may have already experienced, getting ready for that baby
isn’t going to be cheap. That’s one of the reasons baby showers
were invented. That means you need to decide in advance how much
you can afford to spend and stick to that budget. Otherwise you
may end up deep in debt or without all of the necessities your
little one is going to need.

Crib bedding will be one of the bigger costs on your budget but
it can also be one of the more flexible ones. Generally, a
quality crib bedding set could cost from around $400 up to more
than $800. However, if you don’t want to purchase an entire set
at once because of budget limitations you could choose to buy
the pieces one at a time or to leave out some of the less
important crib bedding accessories.

Match the Décor

If you’ve already started decorating the rest of the nursery,
then the crib bedding you choose will need to match what is
already there quite nicely. After all, you do want to create a
visually appealing space for your baby. Sure, he or she may not
appreciate it now but that crib bedding will probably be used at
least until your baby turns three. That means he or she will
definitely have some time to appreciate all of your hard work.

Another idea is to pick the crib bedding before you do any type
of decorations. That way you can match the rest of the décor to
the crib bedding instead of vice versa.

Gender Appropriate

While any color crib bedding is appropriate for any gender of
baby, most people still adhere to those classic color
stereotypes. That means if you are having a little girl you
probably won’t be going for blue crib bedding. What do you do if
you don’t know or have chosen not to know the gender of your
baby before birth?

One answer is to choose so-called gender neutral colors for the
crib bedding, such as green or yellow. These are both very
tranquil colors to consider and look beautiful in any nursery.
Choosing a print or pattern that incorporates multiple colors is
also a good idea.

Choosing a Theme

Some parents decide to decorate their nurseries in a theme. For
example, you could choose a jungle look and even paint a jungle
mural on one of the walls. In that case, you might want crib
bedding, such as the Doodlefish Safari set from Pure & Honest
Kids, that matches your theme.

Organic Baby Products - Saving Our Planet

Organic baby products have the advantage of contributing to the
comfort and health of your baby which makes them the preferred
choice by discriminating parents. In addition to the individual
benefit to each baby who is not exposed to harmful ingredients
in traditional baby products, the use of organic baby products
is helpful to the health of our planet. Each year thousands of
tons of waste products are dumped in landfills and into the
streams and rivers of this country. Unfortunately, the
manufacture of many traditional products includes the release of
carcinogens into the waterways. Tremendous improvements have
been made in recent years, but reducing the amount of these
substances even further is a positive move.

Social Responsibility

Now that you are the parent of a new baby, you are more likely
to realize the importance of taking good care of the planet that
you will be handing on to your children and grandchildren. Using
organic baby products is just one way of improving the quality
of air and water on the planet. On an individual level, using
organic baby products is more likely to ensure that your baby
doesn't suffer the effects of unpleasant ingredients being
placed on tender skin as you use lotions, creams and powders in
an effort to protect the skin.

Water and Air

It is hard to believe that purchasing organic baby products is a
way to help take care of the planet Earth, but it is true. As
you reduce your use of products that contain irritants and
allergens and commit to eliminating the use of products with
dangerous chemicals involved in either the production or the
manufacturing of the item, you will reduce the number of
challenges to the air and water of this planet. There will no
longer be chemicals released into the air and water. Refuse to
purchase detergents, for example that contain hidden
carcinogens. If organic baby products are safe for infants,
shouldn't we all be using organic products?

Sustainable Products

Organic baby products are a great choice in another way.
Because the materials that are used to produce the items are
made of naturally occurring substances, such as cotton, silk and
wool, there will always be more of the product, so long as
farmer and agriculturalists continue to do their chosen work.
The materials going into the making of organic baby products are
grown without pesticides or chemical fertilizers so there is
nothing harmful going into the soil or air.

Public Eye

The concept of using organic baby products as opposed to
standard products is increasingly in the public eye nowadays.
When you take a sensible concept such as the organic marketplace
and provide it with good word of mouth approval and availability
of the product through a world wide internet, the concept will
continue to grow in popularity and usage. Online marketing is
the best venue for the small business owner and the business
start up entrepreneur. It is a situation where the more sales
there are, the more products you are likely to find in the
marketplace.

Baby Bedding - How to Choose a Theme

One of the fun aspects about having a new baby joining your family is that of picking out baby bedding for the new arrival. Today's fabrics and designs offer a wide range of options to choose from. The selection of a theme is largely a matter of personal preference, but there are some factors to consider before picking out baby bedding for your infant. Each baby room and associated bedding can be designed to fit your lifestyle and the look you prefer in your home decor. Whether you like bright primary colors or soft pastels, you can find a theme that matches your preferences.

Safety

Regardless of the theme you select for your baby bedding, you should look for safety features on each item. Extensive product testing for most items of children's toys, bedding and clothing means that there are standards which must be met and maintained before the product can be released to the market place. For example, fire retardant materials are critical items in baby bedding and sleepwear. Bedding with attachments that are not securely fastened is not something that should be used in a baby's room, no matter how clever. Bedding that is plastic can cause danger of choking or suffocation.

Durability

Even though babies tend to outgrow clothing quickly so that you don't usually have to worry about clothing's durability but the opposite is true with baby bedding. It is important that the baby bedding you select for your child is going to last for months, or sometimes even years for the more expensive items. Part of the durability is how easy the bedding is to clean and maintain in pristine condition. You must be able to depend upon the bedding lasting through routine wear and cleaning efforts.

Colors

Extensive study on the subject of color and its effect on babies' growth and development has occurred over the years with some replicable conclusions that have been published. Baby beddinghas been manufactured in solid colors that include pastels whites, and bold primary colors. In addition, there are many sets of baby bedding that are either bright prints or delicate florals or stripes. Sometimes the colors reflect a theme of movie characters or comic strip characters. Obviously, an infant is not going to recognize the characters, but the colors selected will be an inspiration to the parent and can be a fun and imaginative way to create a baby room theme.

Texture

The texture of the baby bedding you select will also affect the comfort of your child. While bedding with a plasticized finish may make sense for ease of cleaning, it doesn't 'breathe' in the same way that natural fibers do. Many parents select cotton because it is washable and comes in many colors and designs. Cotton items are rarely the cause of irritation to baby's skin. Because the baby's skin is so delicate, parents naturally want to surround the child with soft and gentle textures. Because there is a huge selection of colors and designs in soft texture fabrics, you can put together a theme that you love and still treat baby gently.

Baby Slings – Common Sling Problems and How to Correct Them

Properly worn baby slings are not only comfortable for you, but
for your baby as well. Also, if you and your child are
comfortable with a sling, you are more able to wear it for
extended periods of time. This increases the bond between wearer
and child and may even reduce your baby’s crying due to longer
carrying time.

Here are some common problems encountered with baby slings and
how to correct them for maximum comfort:

Ring Position For Ring Slings

Many people find that wearing the ring at or around the
collarbone level is the most comfortable for them. You can
position the ring lower, but bear in mind that the sling the
baby is carried in will be smaller. These rings are very strong,
often being made from marine grade aluminum or metal used for
heavy livestock. This ensures that the ring will not break or
crack even with a heavier toddler. Because of the size and make
of the ring, you’ll want it to be as comfortable on your body as
possible, and the “pouch” of your collarbone is an ideal place.

Shoulder Position

With the ring sitting nicely at your collarbone, the fabric that
comes up and over your shoulder needs to be spread over your
shoulder and somewhat down your upper arm. This distributes the
weight of your child and the sling evenly. If you bunch the
fabric up on your shoulder, you’ll have unnecessary pressure on
your shoulder muscles and this will fatigue you rather quickly.

If you are looking at baby slings, which have a padded shoulder
strap, then make sure it is properly centered on your shoulder
and not up against your neck. Again, this will reduce muscle
strain

The Back Of Your Baby Slings

The baby slings back need to be spread out as widely as
possible. Basically, the more you spread out the fabric in the
back, the more comfortable you’ll be. Also, spread the fabric
down low on your back. This, too, will reduce pressure on your
back. You will be surprised at how wide you can spread your
sling across and down your back, so take the time to do it and
notice the difference in your comfort level.

The Height Of Your Baby

Basically, the higher you carry your baby, the more comfortable
you’ll be. Baby slings are pretty easy to adjust, so just keep
at it until your baby is comfortable and you are, too. The
weight of your baby and the baby’s age will also determine
carrying height.

Remember, if you are finding that you are getting tired easily
from using your sling or that it’s uncomfortable, it may not be
adjusted ideally for your body. If possible, have someone that
also uses baby slings help you in adjusting your sling for a
better fit. If that’s not possible, check online for a local Le
Leche group. You will likely find someone in this group that
will assist you in fitting your sling.

Baby Bedding - First Time Buying Tips

Buying baby bedding for the first time can be both exciting and scary. You know you want only the best for the new arrival to your family, yet it's easy to be overwhelmed by the multitude of choices that are available nowadays. If you have ever wished for a plain words list of what baby bedding items to buy that are necessary and what items are merely helpful or desirable accessories, you can consult the categories below help you distinguish between the two. Even within the necessities category, there is plenty of room for innovation so long as you keep safety and temperature control in mind in your selections.

Necessities

The obvious necessities for baby bedding include a crib or cradle mattress, a crib sheet and preferably a mattress pad that will save the mattress when those inevitable diaper spills occur. A covering for the baby such as blanket or coverlet is also critical. You can select a traditional crib mattress or one of the newer organic types. In addition to one or more mattress pads, you will need a supply of crib sheets so that you won't need to do laundry every day. Lightweight baby bedding blankets come in a variety of materials that are generally easy-care.

Accessories

The list of baby bedding accessories can be as long or short as you want to make it. Typical items include crib bumpers, pillows, crib canopies, wall hangings, curtains and valances. Anything that goes along with the overall theme of the room can be utilized. Probably going shopping for the first time for baby bedding items should be done with a list of sorts to help keep you focused, but you may want to avoid buying any items until you have looked over the possibilities and picked out a theme for your baby's room.

Baby's temperature

Maintaining the right sleeping temperature for your baby is an important reason for choosing good blankets or baby bedding coverings. Blankets come in a variety of materials ranging from wool, silk, cotton, suede to all the range of man made materials. Many parents elect to go with soft cotton or cotton blends that are easy care, yet warm and comfortable for the baby. Lightweight baby bedding products are important to avoid risk of suffocation. Blankets come in all the colors and themes you could want so that your desired decor can be just as you desire.

Safety

No matter what type of baby bedding you select, your child's safety should be your first consideration. Look for certification from consumer organizations, product reviews where applicable and think about things you can do to prevent dangerous irritants, allergens or safety hazards simply due to the baby bedding you are using. It's great to know that you can find bedding for your baby's room in every imaginable type of decor and be assured of child safety while doing so. So, let your imagination run wild and enjoy the opportunity of preparing a safe and comfortable haven for your baby.

Baby Slings – A Look at Wraps

There are many different kinds of baby slings on the market. One
kind of sling is called a wrap or wraparound. These baby slings
are exactly as they sound, a long piece of material, usually
around three to seven yards in length, which are then wrapped
around the wearer and the baby and then tied. These slings are
popular with people that want the most basic type of sling to
carry their child, but still have something fashionable. These
slings offer a wide variety of material to choose from, so that
the wearer can have most any color, pattern or design for their
wrap.

Types of Wraps

Basically, there are two types of wraparound type baby slings -
stretchy and woven. These come in a variety of materials and
have different functions for different weight children.

Stretchy Wraps

The stretchy wrap is generally made from a material like jersey
knit. This is used because it’s lightweight, cool in warmer
weather and it’s easy to place the baby in and out of the wrap
without taking it off. Because these wraps are stretchy, as the
baby starts getting bigger and putting on weight, the wrap isn’t
very supportive to the wearer and it can place a strain on the
wearer’s lower back and shoulders. Ideally, stretchy baby slings
are for newborns and very young babies.

Woven Wraps

Woven wrap baby slings are generally made out of cotton, but can
also be constructed from silk, hemp or linen. Also, handspun
materials are popular for this type of wrap. While the woven
wrap has some give, it’s not nearly as stretchy as a “stretchy”
wrap due to the difference in material. Because of this, heavier
babies and small toddlers can be transported with a woven wrap
much easier than with its stretch counterpart. The key to look
for with a woven wrap is strong stitching and fairly thick
fabric. A thinner fabric, while cooler, will also produce
pressure points on the wearer over a period of carrying time.
Also, if the wearer has not perfected the art of wrapping, a
thinner material is less than forgiving, making it harder to
learn the art.

Material Length

The length of the material determines what positions the baby
can be carried. Smaller children, such as a baby or toddler, can
be carried on the parent’s front, hip or back. It is possible to
carry the child via a one-shoulder carry – similar to the ring
sling, but a shorter amount of material is needed for this type
of carry. While the pouch sling is probably the easiest of the
baby slings to learn to use, the wrap or wraparound is more
difficult.

Wraparound baby slings are not as popular as some of the other
baby slings on the market, mainly due to the learning curve of
how to properly wrap one and safely secure your child. However,
once you have learned this art, it opens up a new alternative
for the wearer to transport their baby or toddler while
remaining somewhat hands free.

Baby Bedding - Choices That Grow

Once you have decided on a general decor or theme for your baby's room, you will then have the fun of choosing baby bedding items that fit within your theme and still are safe and comfortable for your newborn. Another aspect of smart baby bedding choices is selecting things that will grow along with your child. This growth is not necessarily just in the physical sense of getting too large for a cradle for example, but reflects the growth of interest and the baby beginning to interact with his or her environment in a positive way.

Involve the Senses

Baby bedding accessories that draw the baby's attention by using the senses of sight, sound and touch are particularly good items to include in the baby's room. A bright mobile that is above the baby's bed will be intriguing to baby, particularly if the toy has bright colors, moves or plays a musical melody, for example. The baby will become animated as he or she recognizes the sound and motion of such an item. Another popular baby bedding accessory is a mural or wall hanging placed where the child can see the bright colors.

Blankets

When you first bring your new baby home from the hospital or birthing center, your typical baby bedding will consist of a mattress pad, crib sheets and perhaps receiving blankets. As the baby grows and becomes more active, usually the receiving blanket must be replaced by larger, lightweight crib blankets or comforters. These can still be lightweight but must be larger in size. Soft cottons, silks, or other fabrics are ideal to replace the original baby bedding for infants. You will still need to look for blankets that can be easily washed and maintained with minimal effort. The blankets can be in keeping with the slightly expanded environment of the older baby while still attractive and durable.

Colors

While you may prefer dainty pastels in a newborn's room, as the baby starts taking more interest in its surroundings, baby bedding in brighter colors or with prints or action figures that will catch and hold the baby's interest are preferable. For this reason, you may want to keep the original choices of baby bedding to a minimum few, but plan ahead for the future simple changes to add more color and excitement to the original theme of the room.

Window Treatments

Window treatments are as varied today as other types of baby bedding and they can blend or contrast with the rest of the colors and theme of the baby's room. As the baby grows older, they can be replaced with other types of construction, or can be the look that ties the entire maturing room together. Choose white sheers to go in the infants room and top them with bright drapes or panels as the child grows. If you prefer to use blinds or mini blinds for your window treatment, you can top them with attractive valances or borders. These can be replaced easily to keep pace with your baby's interest and attention.

Organic Baby Products - Eliminating Carcinogens

One of the major benefits of using organic baby products is that they are naturally free of ingredients known to be carcinogens. No new parent wants to learn that many of the lotions, powders, cremes and salves they are putting on their baby's tender skin contain substances known to be carcinogenic or that break down due to natural factors into substances that release carcinogens. It's important to read the labels, of course, but by using organic baby products, you are less likely to find questionable ingredients in the things that you use for your baby's comfort.

Types of Carcinogens

It is difficult to determine precisely the effect that certain chemicals will have when placed on the baby's skin. The chemical may be directly harmful or the product may contain ingredients that break down when placed in or on the body to create negative effects on human skin. These ingredients are usually found in mainstream products, but organic baby products either do not contain the ingredients originally, or the product has been treated in such a way as to remove the dangerous components. True organic baby products contain no harmful ingredients to risk your baby's health and potentially his or her life.

Hidden Carcinogens

Hidden carcinogens in baby products are scary things. They are substances which may appear safe but under time or environmental conditions, they will ultimately deteriorate and release carcinogens. Babies are extremely sensitive to substances that are carcinogens, making it particularly important for parents to select organic baby products for the new baby. Organic baby products do not contain carcinogens, hidden or obvious. This makes them worthwhile to purchase even when prices are somewhat higher than those of standard products. Just by reading labels and informing yourself about carcinogens, you are less likely to choose harmful products for your child.

Carcinogens in Mainstream Products

Many wetting agents and detergents contain large amounts of carcinogens especially when combined with dioxane and ethyl oxide. Combinations of these lethal ingredients are particularly dangerous in combination with Laureths, Ceteareths and PEG's. Instead of using these ingredients in your cleaning products, choose organic baby products and give your baby a better start in life. You should also avoid detergents containing triethanolamine that can interact with nitrite and form another carcinogen called nitrosamine. organic baby products are a much smarter choice to avoid exposing your infant to dangerous chemicals.

Fragrances

There are fragrant products, many of which are found in baby products that contain carcinogenic ingredients. In addition to known carcinogens, at least one quarter of these ingredients that are used in baby care products are known allergens. The fragrances that are used in these products often cause skin allergies in babies. Why not choose organic baby products instead for your infant. You won't be running the risk of hidden carcinogens being introduced into your baby's clothing , food and bedding. You also reduce the incidence of irritated skin with allergic reactions. when you introduce substances on your baby's skin, you want to be assured that they provide protection, not harm.

Baby Slings – A Look at the Pouch Sling

Unlike a ring sling, where the baby sling is created using
fabric and rings, a pouch sling is a single piece of cloth sewn
into a tubular shape creating a pouch. There are no extra pieces
of hardware such as rings, although some pouches some with
adjustable options and include zippers, Velcro, etc to allow the
parent to adjust the pouch somewhat.

Here are some facts you need to know before purchasing
pouch-type baby slings:

How To Wear A Pouch Sling

The pouch sling is quite easy to wear, as it is only one
contiguous piece of fabric. Basically, you slip it over your
head and one shoulder and wear it like a sash. Unless you have
an adjustable pouch, no further adjustment is required. Unlike
the ring sling, many people find they learn to use these baby
slings very quickly.

When To Use The Pouch Sling

Because of the construction of this type of sling, there is a
greater chance of lower back pain for the wearer. Therefore,
these baby slings are ideal for babies that are frequently being
taken into and out of the pouch, and thus carried for short
periods of time. Also, these baby slings are good for heavier
toddlers that want to be picked up and then put back down again.
The sling takes the pressure off your hips and lower back for
short-term use and still allows you to carry your toddler as
much as they ask.

Drawbacks To A Pouch Sling

As mentioned earlier, because of the construction of this type
of sling, there is a greater chance of lower back pain to the
wearer. These baby slings are not really meant for long-term use
of carrying heavy babies. However, the better the pouch fits
your body, the longer you will be able to carry a heavier child
with a minimum of back pain. Also, better fabric will also
assist in this. A good fabric will have good tensile strength,
but also have decent diagonal give. You don’t want the pouch to
hang too low or it will put undue strain on your back and
shoulder.

Alternatives For Heavier Children

Many parents find that pouch-type baby slings are ideal for
small babies or for toddlers that want to frequently be picked
up and put down again. However, for heavier babies that are not
yet walking or toddlers that need to be held for longer periods
of time, the pouch sling really isn’t that ideal. Instead, wraps
or mei tai baby slings are a better way to go. The key is
recognizing what stage of life you child is in and getting a
sling that best suits your lifestyle and your child’s stage of
development.

There are many types of baby slings on the market. They range
from the purely functional to the outrageously hip and cool. All
of them have a place in your home, as they will bring you closer
to your baby than a stroller. Just take your time and find the
baby sling that is right for you.

Organic Baby Products - Baby Toys

Today, more and more products carry the label 'organic'. Among the organic baby products available on the open market are baby toys made with organic materials. Organic baby products are every bit as clever in design as standard baby toys and many even carry a message of our 'green planet' movement. Organic toys make responsible parents fee that they are doing something to ensure a better planet to hand down to the children. There are some baby toys that can be found in the better baby boutiques, but even more are available when you do a search for organic toys on the internet.

Durability

One of the popular organic baby products is that of baby toys made of organic materials. These can be materials such as cotton, wool and other materials that contain no chemicals or other irritants. Discerning parents are sure to select organic baby products whenever possible so that the baby won't be subjected to toys that can cause harm. Because these baby toys are made or organic materials, they tend to hold up better during the time when the baby is exploring the senses such as taste, touch and sight. When created in bright colors that are soft to the touch, they are appealing to the child.

Cost

Organic baby products as a general rule are more expensive than standard design product and this fact holds true for baby toys that are made of organic materials. In part this is because at present there are fewer organic baby products made than standard products. As the volume of organic baby toys increases, the price may be reduced accordingly. The second major reason why these organic items are higher in price is simply because they ARE organic. They are something unusual, special, out of the ordinary and therefore command a higher price than standards items.

Popularity

Organic baby products are increasing in popularity for a number of reasons. Probably the foremost reason is that parents are trying to surround their babies with products that are safe, sensible, healthy and that contain no harmful ingredients. Organic baby products meet all these requirements. On the global scale, products that are organic leave a smaller negative impact upon the earth. Products created without using dangerous chemicals result in cleaner water, air and soil on the planet. Thus the child that receives the organic baby toy is more likely to grow up healthier and will inherit a healthier earth in which to live.

Imagination

Organic baby products, particularly organic baby toys, seem to be designed with a special touch of imagination. because there is no reliance on plastics, chemicals or other man made materials, organic toys must rely on natural colors, fabrics and decorations. These toys show more imagination although not necessarily more complicated design. Instead, the more popular baby toys are bright in color, soft to the touch and are perfectly safe for baby to taste since they contain nothing dangerous or harmful to the baby. After all, that is how the baby learns about the exciting environment surrounding it.

Baby Bottles – Going Green With Baby Bottles

With the recent concern of leaching chemicals, such as
bisphenol-A (BPA), phthalates, PVCs and polycarbonates, found in
plastic baby bottles, you may be looking for an alternative baby
bottle for your darling little one.

Pure and Honest has the perfect bottle solution for you! Created
by a feeding specialist and award-winning designer, the Babylife
Wee Go Bottle is beautiful, stylish, safe,
developmentally-appropriate, eco-friendly, and most importantly,
BPA free! The bottles are not only functional, but modern and
fun as well!

Available at Pure and Honest Kids, the Wee Go Baby Bottle is
made of glass and is totally free of harmful chemicals found in
many plastic bottles. Not only that, but the bottles have a new
safety twist- the bottle is covered with a colorful silicone
sleeve that will help protect the bottle from breakage. This
silicone sleeve is also free of plastics and is 100% non-toxic.
The sleeve provides a good gripping surface during feeding and
also a fun tactile touch for your tot! The bottles and silicone
sleeve are safe in both boiling water and in the dishwasher.

The plastic ring contains no poly-carbonates and is made of
FDA-approved and food grade plastic, and is also recyclable.
Because the bottle cap and ring are made of soft plastic that
may not hold up to boiling temperatures, Wee Go Baby Bottles
suggests that you hand-wash these parts.

This glass bottle is an excellent choice for many reasons. Glass
bottles are made of natural material, easy to clean, and are
great insulators. You also do not have to worry about scratching
or wear and tear with glass bottles, like you do with plastic
bottles, and glass is much better for the environment than
plastic.

Babylife is the company responsible for the Wee Go Baby Bottles.
Babylife was founded by Pam Marcus and Daren Edward Joy. After
working with children for many years as a pediatric physical
therapist, Pam saw that many infant products and toys were
either designed poorly or had not changed in 20 years. She
decided to work with Daren, an integrative designer, to create
baby products that are eco-friendly as well as developmentally
appropriate. A key component to Babylife’s mission is to educate
parents and caretakers about issues that are important to the
baby’s well-being.

Wee Go Baby Bottles also includes 100% silicone, non-toxic,
latex-free nipples, but can be interchanged with other nipple
brands.

There is nothing old fashioned about this bottle. It’s modern
and stylish, and most important, it’s safe. You’ll be glad you
made the switch to glass. Wee Go Baby Bottles were first
released in October 2007, and have sold out many times due to
its gaining popularity. They are back in stock at Pure and
Honest Kids, and better than ever, so place your order today!

The Wee Go Baby Bottles holds 9 ounces (260ml) and comes in many
wonderful sleeve colors, including pink, raspberry, orange,
yellow, sky and ocean.

Each bottle is sold separately and all are available at Pure and
Honest Kids for $18.00 a bottle.

Choosing Crib Bedding as a Baby Shower Gift

You’ve received the invitation and have already decided to
attend the baby shower of a friend or family member. Now you
must make the difficult decision of choosing a gift for the
event. Shopping for baby gifts can be a lot of fun but if you
want to truly get the new parents and their bundle of joy a
practical present crib bedding can be an excellent choice.
However before you start picking out a print here are some tips
you should remember when buying crib bedding as a gift.

Your Budget

If you haven’t bought crib bedding before, you may not realize
that it can be quite costly, especially if you are going for the
best quality possible. Most parents don’t want to skimp on
anything that is going to be coming in contact with their child
so if you’re buying a crib bedding gift you need to be prepared
to spend a bit more money.

Before you make this decision, determine how much you can afford
to spend. If a crib bedding set falls a little over your budget,
you still have options. For one, you could find another guest
and go in together on the price. Another idea is to buy a piece
of crib bedding, such as the diaper table changing pad, instead
of an entire set.

Parents’ Needs

Another huge challenge for most guests is not duplicating the
same gift. This can be a challenge with crib bedding because you
may not know what the parents have already purchased themselves
or what other guests have bought. The best idea is to stick with
the parents’ registry or online gift list. You can usually find
out the registration information by asking one of the hosts of
the baby shower or a close relative of the expecting parents.

With crib bedding, you might also choose to play it safe and buy
something the parents will probably need more than one set of
anyway, such as crib sheets.

The Style of the Nursery

Before you buy crib bedding, make sure you have some idea of
what the parents want their nursery to look like. If they are
going for a ballerina look, you won’t want to bring in crib
bedding for a safari or a surfer. You may want to drop by for a
visit and check on the progress of the nursery yourself before
making the decision.

If not, ask someone who knows the parents and their nursery
plans well for advice on which crib bedding to buy. Of course,
you can also find out from using the couple’s gift list if they
have wisely created one.

Gender

No matter who is buying the crib bedding the baby’s gender is
likely to be an issue. Even though parents don’t want to adhere
to gender stereotypes, most people expecting a little girl
aren’t going to choose the Doodlefish Vintage Racer crib set for
her room.

Baby Bedding - Buy or Borrow?

When it comes time to obtain baby bedding for the new arrival in
your family, you may have well meaning family or friends
encourage you to borrow the things that you need. There is no
doubt that hand-me-downs are less expensive than purchasing new
items for a new baby, but there are some other factors that you
should be aware of before letting the lower price tag affect
your decision to borrow the baby bedding you need for your baby.
Even if you choose to borrow rather than buy, take the necessary
steps to ensure the safety and health of your baby.

Safety

The safety of your baby is the primary concern for any product
that you use, but especially for baby bedding since a newborn
spends up to 70% of his or her time in contact with the bedding.
when you use baby bedding that is borrowed, it may be older
products that have had safety defects associated with them. It
may use chemicals for fire retardants or chemical dyes that are
less than desirable to be in contact with your baby. The donor
of the products may not even be aware of safety issues
associated with a specific item.

Quality

The quality of borrowed baby bedding may be top notch, but it
may also have defects that render it less than ideal. For
example, a cheap mattress that is used extensively may have
deterioration so that the firmness is compromised. These
mattresses can create poor spinal alignment in infants. Less
than adequate quality can cause breathing problems if the baby
bedding contains dust, spores or other irritants that upset your
baby's skin and breathing passages. Even good quality bedding
can be subject to stains and contaminants that you can scarcely
see. Are you willing to take the chance with the health of your
baby?

Designs

When you borrow baby bedding, some of the designs that may be
used in the products are out dated enough to be the subject of
recalls. An example might be a crib bumper that has tie cords
to hold it in place. Decorative baby pillows is another baby
bedding design feature that has changed over the years to become
less likely to have features that can come loose or cause
suffocation of the baby. Decals on cribs, mattresses or bumpers
tend to deteriorate. Of less importance is the fact that
certain designs look dated, so if appearance of the items is
important to you. you might be better to purchase the bedding
rather than borrow it.

Durability

No matter how good the quality is on a borrowed or hand me down
item, it has been used to some extent in most instances. Each
time the baby bedding is used, it is inevitable that there is
some wear and tear on the item. In the case of baby bedding
this may not make any difference, but it may also make a great
deal of difference. Fabric tears happen more easily in products
that have been weakened by wear or washing.

Hypoallergenic Baby Bedding - Benefits

A baby spends a large portion of its first few months of life sleeping. It's important that the fabrics that surround the baby during his or her sleep cycle be as free from allergens and other irritants as possible. Many parents make the deliberate choice to use hypoallergenic baby bedding in order to avoid triggering allergic reactions in their newborns and infants. Allergic reactions triggered by baby bedding that is not hypoallergenic can last a lifetime in the child. The direct impact of an allergic episode often is manifested in less than restful sleep. Troubles in breathing and in other factors can be directly or indirectly traced to allergies in the infant.

What is it?

Baby bedding labeled as hypoallergenic is developed with the idea of protecting babies who are more likely to suffer allergic reactions from man made materials. Because infants, particularly those who are premature have very sensitive skin, it is important that everything possible be done to remove substances from the materials surrounding the infant. With hypoallergenic baby bedding, infants are less likely to suffer from sleep disturbances due to reactions to allergens in the bedding. Natural fibers such as wool, cotton and silk are the best choice for hypoallergenic bedding. The natural fibers are further treated to remove any irritants that could cause allergic reactions in your baby.

Wool

Wool baby bedding is one of the best choices for pure, nonirritating material to be placed in your baby's room or next to your baby's sensitive skin. In addition to the naturally non-allergenic basis of wool, those farmers raising sheep for the specialized market for non allergenic baby bedding must take special care of the animals so that there are no parasites in the wool when it goes to the factory. Often, it the organic material left from these parasites that causes the reaction in the baby.

Cotton

Cotton also scores well on the scale on hypoallergenic baby bedding materials. Bedclothes made of cotton are naturally free of allergens and the manufacturers go through additional steps to remove any impurities in the cotton fiber that would increase the level of irritants. Cotton baby bedding is not only comfortable against your baby's skin, but it is warm in the cooler weather and cool when the weather turns warm. Cotton bed clothing can be brilliant in color or can be the softest pastel. It can be perky prints or any other style to match the decor you have created for your infant's room theme.

Silk

Another naturally occurring hypoallergenic material is natural silk. One of the reasons silk is an excellent hypoallergenic material for use in baby bedding is that silk doesn't support dust mites. Dust mites in baby bedding is a prime cause of allergenic attacks. In addition to being a great choice of bedding due to its freedom from allergens, silk looks and feels elegant and luxurious. Colors, designs and general appearance of this type of baby bedding is usually certain to be the cause of little or no allergenic episodes according to tests.

Baby Slings – A Look at Ring Slings

Baby Slings are becoming more and more in fashion these days.
One type of sling is called the “Ring Sling.” These are baby
slings that work through the use of dynamic tension, cloth and
rings. Basically, a piece of cloth is sewn into two rings. The
remainder of the cloth is then wrapped around the body from
shoulder to opposing hip, around the back, up to the original
shoulder again. As the loose end of cloth comes back to the
shoulder, it is threaded through the rings to make kind of a
buckle effect. The baby can be placed safely in the resulting
sling.

Here is some interesting information about baby slings in the
form of ring slings:

How A Ring Sling Holds Your Baby

Ring slings work through the use of dynamic tension. Basically,
the baby’s weight pulls, or puts tension on the cloth and this
combined with the positioning of the rings locks the sling into
place.

How To Adjust A Ring Sling

Because of the “buckle” effect of these baby slings, once put
together, they can be adjusted for different sizes and shapes,
allowing for different people to carry the baby in comfort. To
adjust the sling, put the sling on and place the baby inside –
supporting the child with one arm. While doing this, have a
companion adjust the “buckle” from behind to a comfortable
position for you. Pulling cloth through the ring will tighten
the sling and letting fabric out will loosen it.

To Pad Or Not To Pad

Baby slings of this type can come padded or unpadded. Typically,
you will find pads at the shoulder for greater carrying comfort
and also in the sling itself, forming a type of seat for the
baby. It boils down to individual taste as to whether or not you
want pads on your ring sling or not.

Type Of Fabric Used

Baby slings can be made from all types of material. Ranging
anywhere from cotton to silk and everything in between, baby
slings can be as beautiful as they are functional.  The most
common fabrics used in the construction of these slings are
homemade fabrics, twill or anything with not only good strength,
but also a fair amount of diagonal “give.” Fabrics to avoid
would be a very slippery fabric, as the baby needs to obviously
be secure inside the sling without sliding out. Also, the
material should not easily slide out of the rings. Finally, you
want a fabric where strong stitching will hold the fabric in
place without fear of fraying or tearing.

Ring Construction

Craft rings are strongly discouraged for baby slings, as they
are not strong enough to hold this kind of weight in the long
run and are prone to breakage. Rings that are ideal for this
kind of carrier are aluminum marine rings or rings designed for
heavy livestock. These types of rings are designed for much
heavier weights and should not break with the daily use of your
sling.

A well-constructed ring sling can be both beautiful and
functional for the new parent. These tips can help you when
purchasing one, so that you know what is safe for you and your
baby.

The Must Have Items For Your Baby’s Crib Bedding

When you are buying crib bedding for the first time, you may
feel overwhelmed by the choices of colors, themes, patterns, and
styles available for your new baby. That’s actually a good
feeling because it means you’re going to have more choices
available. However, what isn’t so good is not knowing which
items you are going to need in order to prepare for your baby’s
arrival. Below are some pointers to help you decide what needs
to be included in you crib bedding.

Crib Bumper

The crib bumper is one of the most important parts of your crib
bedding purchases because it will protect your baby’s limbs from
moving out between the bars of the crib which can cause the baby
injury. However, you want to be sure that the crib bumpers you
choose are securely connected to the crib. Loose ties can be a
strangulation hazard for babies.

Remember to choose crib bumpers that are going to be padded to
provide your baby with further protection from the crib and be
sure to choose a four piece bumper to provide all over
protection for the baby.

Crib Sheet

You’ll also want to invest in at least one fitted sheet as part
of your crib bedding. The sheet will wrap around the crib’s
mattress so your baby doesn’t come in direct contact with a
surface that is difficult to keep clean and germ free. With the
sheets, at least you’ll be able to wash them and that gives you
some peace of mind. Generally, the fitted sheet is going to be
less decorative because it will be one of the least visible
parts of the crib bedding appearance.

Remember you may want to purchase extra fitted crib sheets so
that you can change the crib while you’re washing one set of
sheets.

Crib Blanket

Babies need the extra warmth of a nice cozy blanket in their
cribs, as well. Although the blanket’s appearance is going to be
important because you want it to match the rest of the crib
bedding, the softness and texture of the blanket should be most
important. Make sure you choose a blanket designed for babies so
it won’t be too long and will adhere to safety standards
established for crib bedding.

Again, it might not be a bad idea to purchase more than one
blanket so you can have an alternative or so you can mix and
match designs for new crib bedding looks.

Crib Skirt

The crib skirt is not always a mandatory part of the crib
bedding package. Just as the bed skirt you have (or don’t have)
at home is optional, so is this. If you’ve made the decision to
buy a crib bedding set then the style you select will determine
whether one of these wholly decorative pieces will be included.
Generally, packages and designs that are more feminine are more
likely to include a crib skirt.

If you’re set against having a crib skirt, buying the crib

Satin Baby Bedding - Luxury and Practicality

Satin baby bedding is a product that is an excellent choice for both a glamorous, luxurious look, but better than average practicality whether you are looking at ease of maintenance, durability or other aspects of the product. Try satin baby bedding when you are considering options for your new baby's surroundings. Satin is made of any of several fibers, such as silk, polyester or nylon. Sateen is the name given for short staple cotton yarn. It is also popular when used for bedding products, largely because of its low cost, hypoallergenic qualities and durability. When you are looking for something slightly out of the ordinary when choosing products for the nursery, you should look into satin bedding.

Ambiance

For a luxurious ambiance in all the items of baby bedding, you would be well advised to consider satin products. Satin bedding for adults has a glamorous image, but it would also look great in your new baby's space. Few products convey the image of cool luxury as well as baby beddingmade of satin. Sheets, comforters, matching accouterments which add to the unique decor of your baby's surroundings make a decorative statement that is hard to beat. The feel of the materials used in the products just calls to be touched and enjoyed. The light play on the satin surfaces adds another dimension to the luxurious nature of satin baby products.

Comfort

There is no doubt that baby bedding made of silk, nylon or polyester satin is comfortable for your baby's nap time. Particularly in the case of silk based satin, the fibers are free of harshness that would be irritating to an infant's tender skin. Because the feel of the fabric is smooth and soothing to the touch, the infant may sleep more restfully, with fewer wakeful episodes that can interfere with healthy development.

Durability

Because the fibers used in satin baby bedding are both strong and beautiful, bedding of satin can be expected to be quite durable. This means that satin baby bedding is actually a good investment from an economical standpoint. Many styles and designs of satin bedding are available to prospective parents. Some are both machine washable and safe to be placed in the dryer. It's important to launder the bedding before the first use by the child, since that makes the fabric softer and smoother to the touch. Because these sets are long lasting, it's even more important to pick a luxurious look that you are totally happy with.

Hypoallergenic

Baby bedding made of satin is less likely to cause irritation to baby's skin than other types of baby bedding. Often satin bedding is made of silk so that it doesn't contain chemicals or parasites that can cause skin irritation in highly sensitive infants. Cotton sateen can also be allergen free and is very low maintenance. Look for natural fibers such as silk and cotton whenever possible so that the infant will not be subjected to allergens and irritants from chemicals or other substances. Your baby will be wrapped in luxury and protected from irritants at the same time.

Organic Baby Products - Economic Impact

Purchasing organic baby products does have an economic impact on the parents. It also has an economic impact on the future life of the earth. When parents purchase organic baby products, they may pay slightly more for the privilege, but they also gain the certainty that the products they buy for their baby are the highest quality, hypoallergenic toys that can be found on the market. Beyond the direct impact that the product gives when purchased, organic toys have an economic impact upon the life of the entire planet. Because buying such products encourages their continued production, in an instant the earth's economic future changes.

Individual

At present, purchasing organic baby products may cost somewhat more than purchasing similar products that is not guarded to include only organic materials. For the parent who wants to provide only the highest quality products with which to surround the new baby, organic baby products are the best answer. The parent in this instance typically feels that it is worthwhile to pay a little more money because the quality is higher and because their baby will be healthier without the extra exposure to harmful components of standard baby products. The added bonus for the parent is to encourage a healthier global society by going organic.

Earth

By insisting on organic baby products, the purchaser is helping to ensure the health of the planet. For example, organic cotton is raised without spraying by chemical agents or chemical fertilizers. This means these chemicals are not ending up in the soil or in the water supply to negatively impact future generations. Organic baby products and other organic products can help to clean up the air and water in this country. It will take a concerted effort by many people to make the switch to organic products in order to improve the economic picture worldwide.

Business

Organic baby products and other organic products are a growing business sector in this country and world wide. Although it is somewhat of a niche market at present, global opinion is shifting dramatically in the direction of organic baby products. Savvy business people are taking advantage of the popularity of these products and the availability of the global markets found on the internet in order to build new business opportunities and to expand the product line of existing businesses. The organic items have a good profit picture and one that is likely to become even better.

Producers

Farmers and other producers of organic baby products are building more profitable agricultural bases when they switch to organic products. Organically grown products require more effort and care to produce. Since the producer of a crop grown organically will not use chemical fertilizers, other methods for enriching the soil must be used. The same is true of manufacturing processed that release harmful ingredients into water or air when completed for traditional products. This practice is eliminated when the parent shifts to organic baby products instead of other staying products.

Organic Baby Products - Overview

Choosing organic baby products is a more and more popular option for new parents. Every parents wants to provide the best possible products to use for their baby's comfort and health. Organic baby products have the advantage of reduced or eliminated allergens, carcinogens and other irritants. For a newborn infant with sensitive skin, anything that can be done to reduce exposure to such substances will provide more comfort for the child and less danger of exposure to health compromising ingredients in the products used every day. Now, parents have the choice of selecting products that are specially formulated to be free of harmful substances.

What makes it Organic?

Organic baby products are considered to be so when they are created, produced or manufactured without relying upon chemicals such as fertilizers, chemical washes and other substances. When considering the purchase of organic baby products, you need to read the labels carefully. Not every item that says organic is actually free of man-made materials. However, for items that are truly organic, the results are products that are free of negative components and ingredients. Because of their purity, these products are recommended over the standard run of products and may contain harmful ingredients.

Bedding and Clothing

Baby bedding and baby clothing are another popular category of organic baby products . Baby bedding doesn't contain any chemical dyes or other irritants for baby's skin. Baby bedding is made of all organic materials such as cotton, grown without pesticides, silk and wool. Other organic baby products in clothing designs usually have soft natural colors such as oatmeal, carrot, and chocolate. Since there are no pesticides used in the growth of the materials and no chemicals used in the production, there is little likelihood of skin irritation or breathing difficulties or other health problems as the baby grows older.

Toys

Organic baby products in the category of toys are becoming more popular also, as parents realize the benefits of simple, non toxic playthings for babies. Because these baby toys contain no chemicals, there is no concern about the baby ingesting anything harmful while chewing on the toy. Babies explore by tasting, feeling and seeing the world around them and organic baby products allows them to do so without placing them in danger of carcinogens or irritants. When you, as a parent can give your child safe toys, while at the same time improving the environment, it's a hard combination to beat.

Why go Organic?

Organic baby products are a great idea for all of the above reasons individually, but they are a positive step for people of this generation to hand on to the future generations. Reducing dependence upon non-renewable products; limiting the amount of chemical pollutions in the soil and in lakes and waterways, and providing clean air is the result of producing and purchasing organic baby products . These products are good for the individual and good for the planet as well. You won't have a problem with your health or the health of your child when you reduce the exposure to harmful aspects of the environment.

Baby Bedding - Checklist For Necessities

When you are preparing to outfit a room for a new baby, you will probably have already decided on things like the color and general theme of the room, but perhaps you haven't yet determined what specific baby bedding you will need for the nursery. You can always think of things that would be fun to place in the new room, but perhaps the most important decision you will make is the sleeping arrangements for your child. Once you have selected the theme of the room and the style of furniture that you plan to acquire, the next decision will be the baby bedding. Here are some ideas about this important subject.

Mattress

The first item of baby bedding is the mattress or sleeping pad that you choose for your baby. Most cribs, cradles and other such equipment come equipped with a mattress pad. You can generally select either a traditional mattress that often has polyester foam with a washable cover of some sort, or an organic mattress which may be composed of cotton fiber rather than man made materials. Typically, an organic mattress will not contain chemical sprays or coatings. In either case, the mattress should be firm enough to support the baby and should fit the size of the crib or cradle correctly.

Sheets and blankets

The next item of baby bedding to consider is that of sheets and blankets for your infant. A fitted sheet that is the correct size for the mattress is important. Again, you can choose between many types of materials that are organic or manmade according to your personal preference. In many instances, parents today are choosing hypoallergenic baby bedding in order to reduce the chance of irritants and allergens which can create rashes and breathing problems, respectively, in the infant. Whether you prefer silk or cotton, pastels or primary colors, you can find a plethora of choices in keeping with the theme you have selected for the baby's room.

Bumper

Somehow, the added touch of a crib bumper appeals to many parents, with the idea that it will protect the head of the infant from the wood of the crib or cradle. However, child safety experts are increasingly recommending against the use of a bumper because of safety reasons. If you choose to install a crib bumper, in keeping with the theme of the room, be sure to select one that is not loose or fluffy, but plain with no tassels or ruffles. You can still use colors to match the balance of the baby bedding decor.

Pillow

As an item of baby bedding, a pillow is NOT recommended. In addition to possible allergens and irritants in the pillow, the danger of suffocation is too great. No baby bedding items need be in the crib except the mattress and fitted sheet. No stuffed animals, no pillows or other such items. If you want a pillow or comforter for decorative reasons, you should remove them prior to placing the child down to sleep.

Guide And Tips On Interior Decorating At Home

By Arthur Friday

You may think that interior design requires years of acquired knowledge or the help of a professional. You are quite wrong in taking that approach! Anyone can participate in interior design with the right information and tips. Use the tips in the article below to go from a novice designer to a seasoned self-taught professional!

Have a detailed contract with an interior designer if you choose to hire a professional. This will benefit the both of you and ensure you are on the same page, with no surprises or cost overruns. A good interior designer will want a contract anyway, so it is a good way to establish that they are a reputable businessperson.

When designing a bedroom, use a layering method on the bed. Start with high quality sheets and a soft blanket. Next add an attractive duvet and a beautiful silk throw at the foot of the bed. Finish your look off with an abundance of pillows. This makes the room look elegant and expensive.

When thinking of what color to paint your bedroom, remember that the bedroom is a place for relaxation and calmness. Bright colors, like pinks and purples, do not give off a feeling of relaxation. Instead, you should try to stick to more neutral colors, like beiges, whites, grays and light browns.

If you have small windows and would like to make them look bigger, hang drapery near the top of the ceiling to elongate your windows. By hanging the rods near the ceiling and having the drapes hang to the floor; it gives the window the effect that it is actually bigger than what it is.

Make sure that there is ample lighting in every room of your house. This may require you to do some planning as to where you should situate your lights or chandeliers. If you have a big room, you will need to strategically position the lights to filter throughout the whole area.

If you have a small bedroom, and you would like more room, it would be wise to install built-in cabinets or closets. In addition to getting more storage space, you can avoid having too much furniture in your room. Just be sure that whatever kind of cabinets or closets you put in match the rest of the bedroom.

Never commit to a new shade of paint without trying it out. Looking at paint chips is good, but you can't be certain what the color will really look like until you put it on your wall. Get a small sample batch of your prospective color and paint a square yard (meter) of wall with it. This is a big enough area to let you judge what the color will really look like.

Don't forget to consider lighting when you're designing a room. You don't want things to be too dark and hard to see or else you risk eye strain. You can put in nice lights that will compliment your room, or you can use natural light. Mirrors are great at reflecting light from windows, so strategic placement of a mirror can help lighten a room with natural sunlight.

Table lights are wonderful accessories to have in the living room. They are useful and pretty to look at. You should place these strategically around the living room. You should put them in places that you are seated and perhaps wanting to read a book or do some knitting or cross stich.

Make the most of your interior space by choosing furniture that can multi-task. For example, consider purchasing a dresser that has a mirror on top and can double as a vanity. You will not only have plenty of space for your clothes and shoes. You will also have double function as a vanity.

When people are decorating their windows with window treatments and curtains you need to think about how large they are. Do not ever skimp on the size. Your curtains should be at least two times the width of the window. This will be the rule of thumb no matter if they will be open and closed.

Take thorough measurements of the room you're decorating before you start shopping for furniture. Size is important. Measure both your room and any furniture you plan on buying. Just because it can fit into a room, doesn't mean it is of a practical size. Make sure that you're still going to be able to walk around in the room with ease.

Isn't interior design a subject that you are feeling comfortable with? Interior design is something that should make you feel like you are an expert at now that you've read this article. Go ahead and fix up your home, or offer suggestions to people who want to fix up their homes with the knowledge you gained from this article.

How You Can Make Parenting Easier For Yourself

By Vernetta Hopman

Meeting the demands of parenthood takes focus. Sometimes just the simplest tip from someone more experienced than we happen to be can help us attain that focus. That is the intent of the tips provided below. They will provide the focus that so many of us need to step out there and meet the challenge of parenthood.

Make sure that your child is getting enough sleep each night. If they do not get enough sleep, they tend to lose focus throughout the day, which could prevent them from doing school work and other activities. Try not to let them eat or drink anything sugary for at least a few hours before bedtime.

Sharing household tasks with your child can build self-esteem and create a sense of belonging that will benefit your child in many ways. Age appropriate chores give your child the feeling that they are part of a family team and it also gives a feeling of pride in a job well done.

A great tip to help you become a better parent is to show your child the same respect that you want from him or her. You're not likely to be respected by your child if you demand respect all the time and you aren't respecting your child's boundaries or ideas.

Educate yourself on how to disagree the right way. Disagreements between you and your partner are going to happen. It's just part of life. But one of the toughest things children can see is loud and inappropriate fighting going on between the adults in their lives. It's important to learn how to disagree properly with your significant other to keep your child out of very awkward situations.

It is important to make your child feel secure. You can do this by putting them on a schedule for eating, napping, playtime and TV time. While it doesn't have to be a strict schedule, you should keep it around the same time everyday. This will help your child feel secure.

A great parenting tip is to learn to speak to your child at their level. Don't just bark orders at them all the time. They'll just feel like they have no connection with you if you do that. Remove your ego, and learn to communicate better with your child.

Use a kitchen utensil organizer to keep all of your daughter's hair accessories organized. Each division can be used for a different item, one for barrettes, one for ties, one for headbands, and one for combs. Think of all the time you'll save by not having to dig around through a tangle of hair ties looking for two matching barrettes.

Children react better to positive reinforcement than negative reinforcement. Parents also often overlook when a child does something well but tend to get angry and hand out punishments when a child does something wrong. A much better environment would be where the parents praise and reward the child for doing something well. Children are much more eager to obtain rewards than they are to avoid punishment.

A child will be one of the greatest joys and challenges that you will ever face in your life. You will never laugh as much as you do at your child nor will you ever be quite so frustrated as you become with your child. Try to take the good with the bad to help it all even out.

If your children have extra-loud toys with inadequate volume control, place duct tape over the speakers to muffle the sound a bit. This way, your child can still enjoy the toy without driving everyone else in the house crazy. Duct tape comes in loads of appealing colors and designs, so you can likely find tape that coordinates with the toy.

While this article still does not provide you with an instruction manual for raising your children, try some of the suggestions to help make parenting easier. Every child is different and every age presents different challenges, but these tips can help you through problem areas or challenges with a different perspective.

Once you have a name for your boutique, what you need to do next is to secure a retail permit. Requirements are known to vary from state to state, thus it will be helpful if you contact a distinguished business organization in your area so as to be informed regarding the requirements. After which, you must go to the licensing department of your state.

After securing a permit, the process of stocking up your inventory comes next. This particular step is the most vital. You will have to find suppliers of items, and conduct thorough canvassing.
