Parenting Tips So Good You'll Share With Your Friends

By Antonia Sasha Sanchez

Parenting can be extremely rewarding if you put in the effort and time to develop the skills needed to perform the job correctly. The article below provides some simple advice that will help make being a parent a little easier on you and bring the joy back into parenting.

Rotate toys often for toddlers to keep them from becoming bored or forgetting what is at the bottom of the toy box. Most toys will hold your toddler's interest for a few days, at most, unless it's one of his or her favorites. Your toddler will regain interest in their toys if they are different every day and this will make it so you don't have to buy as many.

If you are an expectant parent, remember that it is not necessary to spend obscene amounts of money on furnishing your nursery. All the necessary baby items, such as a crib, blanket or changing table, can be bought at department stores like a K-Mart or Walmart for much cheaper while still giving you high quality. Friends and family members may be willing to donate items that are no longer being used.

Anger will not take you anywhere as a parent. They should keep a firm grip on angry feelings when dealing with their children. Reacting angrily sets a bad example for children and can damage their self-esteem. Especially avoid getting angry if the event wasn't caused on purpose.

Although taking care of your children may be your primary focus, it is important to take care of your needs as well. Find time every day to relax and re-energize, even if it's only for a few minutes. The entire family will be much happier.

Don't insult your child or try to make him feel powerless when you have to discipline him. Remember that the purpose of any kind of punishment is primarily to help your child learn better behavior, not to inflict unnecessary harm. Negative and hurtful comments can only serve to make your child's behavior worse. You should always use encouraging language so that it helps make his behavior better.

If you make time for yourself, you will be a better parent. No matter how busy your day is, be sure to take a few minutes for yourself to get your energy back. Your children will benefit from your improved happiness.

If your child hates the taste of medicine, try disguising the taste with something sweet. You can mix the medicine with orange juice, or stir in a teaspoonful of sugar. When applying eye drops it is a good idea to apply the drops to your child's closed eyelid rather than fighting to try to keep their eye open. The drop will fall in when your child opens up their eye.

For children who suffer from ADHD or behavioral conditions, an important thing a parent can do is be sure the child is kept busy. Remember that children dealing with these conditions are often very energetic and need to be busy in order to discourage negative behaviors. Ways of combatting this would include going to a playground or going bike riding for about a half hour or more each day.

Parenting requires more effort on your part than simply taking things as they come. Use the information here to improve those areas where you may be deficient. Good parenting is beneficial to the child and rewarding for the parent.
